Long Island, Sept 28: The Health Sub Centre located in charming Long Island in the Middle Andaman region needs urgent treatment as it is running without foul time doctors since a long time. According to reports Doctors visit Long Island twice a Week, leaving patient at the mercy of God for rest of the week.
As for infrastructure, the Ambulance of the Centre, void of a Driver, is in an extremely dilapidated state and patients are ferried to Jetty for CHC Rangat or Port Blair by cargo auto.
“A population of about 2000 in Long Islands is extremely distressed over the absence of a full time Doctor in the Health Centre. Moreover, out of pressure and compulsion, the other attender in the Health Centre has donned the role of physician and he gives medicines at ease to the patients. Villagers are worried here as a small mistake by the attender can cost the life of the patient. As such, many prefer to go to Rangat for medical treatment,” allege some villagers of the area.
An Ambulance was stationed here for the benefit of patients. However, for reasons known better to the Health Department, the driver of the ambulance was transferred without any replacement. It is now more than four months that the Ambulance has been lying in a decrepit state.
“Many a times, patients develop serious complications due to the delay in shifting them for specialised medical care. The Health Centre here itself needs help and the Health Department should immediately swing into action and do the needful,” claim some other villagers of Long Island.
