Port Blair, Sept 25: The Directorate of Social Welfare celebrated the birth anniversary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay at a function in the conference hall of Industries department. The function began with the lightning of the traditional lamp by the chief guest Shri. M.N. Murali, Director, Social Welfare. The President of Sahara association and other NGOs participated in the programme. The Anganwadi workers also attended the function.
Shri. M. N. Murali, Director (SW) spoke about the need for making the people aware of preventive measures for early detection of disabilities.
Shri. A. K. Biswas, Probation Officer welcomed the gathering and focussed on achievement of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay and elaborated in detail the importance of celebrating the day.
An interactive session was held by the Nodal Officer, Miss M. A. Sulfeena with the public and Anganwadi Workers/helpers wherein she explained the various scheme to be implemented under Deen Dayal Rehabilitation Schemes and the ways in which the disabled can avail due benefits.
Shri. P. C. James, Probation Officer (ICDS) urged for active participation of NGOs in the implementation of schemes under DDRS (Deen Dayal Rehabilitation Schemes).
