Port Blair, Sept. 21: Dr Swapan Kumar Biswas, Associate Professor (Political Science), JNRM participated in an International Conference held from 23rd August to 27th August 2014 in University of Uttara, Malaysia in Kedah, Malaysia organized by International Association of Historians for Asia,
Malaysia by presenting a paper entitled “Status of Female Convicts under British Colonial Rule (Penal Settlement) in Andaman, India—an analysis”. The Conference was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia .His Excellency Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd. Yassin .The Theme of the Conference was Asian History, Historiography and Heritage: Managing Experiences & Future .The Historic Mega Conference was Sponsored by University of Uttara Malaysia & Kementerian Pendidkan Malaysia . About 350 delegates from 22 countries across the world participated in the Conference. Participation in such International Conference is a rare and unique opportunity that the faculty working in the colleges under Andaman and Nicobar Administration get to present paper as a Resource Person. It was his second International Conference attended in Abroad. In June, 2013 he has been invited by Ludwig- Maximilians University , Munich , Germany. He presented a paper entitled “Participation of Bengalees in Island’s Politics”. The theme of the Conference was “Manifestation of History of Andaman, Sponsored by Germany Research Foundation .During his academic carrier in JNRM Dr. Biswas has attended four others International Conference: in Trivandrum, Kerala, 2007, Revisit – Kerala, Local Self Government, Institute of Social Science, New Delhi. Paper on “District Planning Committee; a case study of Andaman and Nicobar Islands”.

He has attended as many as five National level Seminar organized by ASI, Port Blair, UGC-New Delhi .Dr. Biswas has organized three National Seminar in JNRM, on “Strategic Importance, Political Autonomy, sustainable Development in ANI” in 2011, National Seminar on ”Netaji and Contemporary Andaman Society ,in March 2013 and “Higher Education : Problems and Prospects :A Case Study in Andaman & Nicobar Islands , in January 2014 ,sponsored & Financed by UGC and ICHR, New Delhi. His area of research is A & N Islands . He has covered almost the area like Local Self Govt. Bengali Settlers, Indigenous Community of these islands . He has published more than two dozen of research papers in reputed National & International journals in India.
