Port Blair, Sep 12:Dr.Dinesh, President, Rotary club of Port Blair was proud to announce “Virtual Blood Bank of Rotary Club of Port Blair” on 12th August, 2014 at Model School Auditorium. Dr. Wajid Ali Shah, Consultant Pathologist, of G B Pant Hospital, inaugurated the project.
Immediately after the project was announced around 266 volunteers registered their names which included parents of Govt. Model Sr.Sec. School students and teachers. A Virtual Blood Bank (VBB) is a database, where details of people, (who would be willing to donate blood, when a person living in his/her neighbourhood needs it) are stored. In VBB, you need not actually donate blood until someone needs it. Unlike normal blood donation camps, where precious blood gets wasted sometimes due to abundance, here no such thing occurs.
So how does it work? Suppose you know someone in area X who needs blood immediately. You call us on our helpline and we use our database to find out the list of registered donors who will able to help you out. It saves precious time during emergency situations and that’s the main advantage. We have launched helpline number one can register with Rtn. Abhijit Agarwal Ph:9933219606, Those who are interested in being a donor are requested to SMS Name, Mobile No, Male or female, Date of Birth, A+ ,A-ve, B+,B-ve, AB+,AB-ve, O+ve, O-ve.
History of Blood pressure, Diabetes, when did you last donate etc to be given at the time of registration. Registering to be a blood donor is an act of humanity which could save and improve the lives of many. All of us should work hard to make this wonderful project a success.
Dr. Wajid Ali Shah gave a brief speech about the importance of Blood donation and the myths related to it, and said he was happy that Rotary Club of Port Blair initiated this project which will immensely help the patients during emergency. Rtn. S.C Malhotra, Rtn. Abhijit Agarwal, Rtn. B Dhinesh Kumar, Rtn. Amit Goenka, Secretary of the club Dr. R Devdas Principal of Andaman College and Smt.
