Port Blair, Aug 12: The timely intervention by Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament as also vigorous efforts resulted in saving 51 Engineering/B. Pharmacy seats for allotment to the eligible candidates of A&N Islands. As per the newly introduced procedure of CSAB NUET 2014 online seat allocation, the registered candidates were given two rounds of online locking of seats. The second round was completed nation-wide on 8.8.2014 and near about 51 seats were found to be lapsing due to non-reporting and other technical shortfalls due to simultaneous allotment process of both NIT and Administration reserved seats, a release from the Office of the MP said here today.
As per the CSAB procedure, the 51 seats falling vacant after second round shall automatically lapse and treated to be surrendered. On receiving information from the prospective students and parents deprived due to newly introduced online CSAB NUET 2014 computerized allotment of seats in professional Engineering/B. Pharmacy courses, the Member of Parliament immediately met Ms.Tripti Gurha, Director (TC) and Secretary to the Govt. of India (Higher Education), Ministry of Human Resource Development in New Delhi yesterday.
According to the release, the MP explained the educationally backward situation of the Islands and requested to allow third/spot round allotment so that the poor students of Islands can get benefit of the seats otherwise declared lapsed. The Secretary (Higher Education), Ministry of Human Resource Development having convinced with the problems of A & N Islands and the adversity of the new allotment system, he immediately ordered for processing the case for approval of the competent authority for one time relaxation.
For the first time, the MHRD has accorded approval for spot round allotment of all the left out seats to meritorious students in a record time within 24 hours of MP’s persuasion. Considering the dead line for admissions to be completed before 15.8.2014 in view of Supreme Court’s directions, the Administration is in the process of completing the spot round allotment on 13.8.2014 itself, a communication from the Office of the Member of Parliament said here today.
