Port Blair, Aug 12: Many hoteliers of Rural Panchayats have approached the PCC Chief Kuldeep Rai Sharma of the difficulties they are facing due to non availability of commercial water connection and requested him to take up the issue with the appropriate authority. Accordingly Kuldeep has written a letter to the Lt Governor wherein he has stated that as per existing policy, commercial water connections in the Panchayat areas are not allowed for commercial establishments when with the development of Panchayat areas lots of commercial activities have started in Rural panchayats viz Dollygunj, Bhatubasti, Prothrapur, Garacharma where a good number of new hotels have come up and they need commercial water connections for the incoming guests. Appreciating the efforts of the AN Administration for promoting tourism in these islands, Kuldeep has stated that a good number of tourists have started arriving in these islands and many of incoming tourists prefer to stay in rural panchayats due to less hotel tariff. But due to scarcity of water, both the hoteliers and also the tourists are facing problem. Hence Kuldeep has requested the Administrator to consider modifying the existing policy so that commercial water connections may be allowed to hotels etc for smooth running of their business and welfare for the incoming tourists. The PCC chief has stated that such consideration of the AN Administration will be useful for more hotels to come up for the varied choice of the tourists.
