Port Blair 20 July: A solemn function was held in JNRM campus today to mark the 14th martyrdom day of Capt. Asheem Kumar Bhattacharjee, former student of the college.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Iqbal Ahmad, Principal, JNRM hailed Capt. Asheem Bhattacharjee as a brave son of the islands who laid down his life in the service of the Motherland while fighting with militants in Uri Sector.
During his speech Dr. Iqbal Ahmad recollected his association with Capt. Bhattacharjee who was a student of B.Sc., Chemistry and was enrolled in M.Sc., Chemistry when he was selected as a Commissioned Officer in Army through NCC entry. Because of his excellence as an officer he was soon promoted to the rank of Captain.
Dr. Iqbal Ahmad called upon the student community to draw inspiration from his bravery and commitment for the protection of the mother land. He also exhorted them to join NCC and seek a career in the Armed Forces. Two minute silence was observed in memory of the departed soul and floral tributes offered at the memorial by the staff and students of the college.
