Port Blair, June 24: The Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lt. Gen (Retd.) A.K. Singh today called on the Minister of Information and Broadcasting and highlighted issued related to Doordarshan Kendra and All India Radio, Port Blair.
Andaman Lt. Governor discussed about lack of coverage of Andaman and Nicobar Islands in All India Radio and Doordarshan and also about lack of FM radio stations in Andaman.
The Lt. Governor also highlighted about severe shortage of staffs in both the sister concerns of Prasar Bharti in Andamans.
“Discussed about lack of coverage of AIR and DD and Lack of FM with I&B Minister. Also about inadequate staff,” the Lt. Governor of A & N Islands said in a tweet message today.
Earlier this morning he also met with the Minister of Health and Minister of Environment and Forest and discussed various issues concerning to A& N Islands.
“Hope to see some fast track movement,” the Lt. Governor tweeted.
Earlier last month the Lt. Governor had reviewed the functioning of Andaman DDK as well as AIR units and asked to upgrade their coverage to reach all the inhabited Islands.
“AIR and Doordarshan can play a critical role, especially during natural disasters, they should have an effective reach. In case of such emergencies, the relays should be available round the clock to help communicate regular forecast and warnings to the Islanders to safeguard their life and property,” the Lt. Governor had noted.
