Port Blair, May 31: A medical camp consisting of specialists and general duty medical officers was conducted by INHS Dhanvantari on behalf of Andaman and Nicobar Command for the population of Long Island on 22 May 2014. The camp was inaugurated by the Pradhan, Mr B Kamraj who expressed a desire for frequent conduct of such medical camps which benefit the population of such remote islands. He also congratulated the medical team for this successful endeavor.
The response of the public to the medical camp conducted was enthusiastic. A large number of patients attended the camp which was conducted in the premises of PHC, Long Island.A Portable ultrasound machine was used in the camp and as many as 52 ultrasounds were carried out in a single day itself. Apart from routine antenatal scans, few serious and treatable conditions were also diagnosed and the patients were advised for further follow ups. The general OPD benefited almost 72 patients with varying lifestyle diseases, especially diabetes and hypertension. The Dental OPD gave on the spot consultation to 26 cases of dental ailments and non surgical treatment was given to these cases.
INHS Dhanvantari has been carrying out such medical and preventive health camps frequently as a part of its Community Outreach Programme. Camps held in the past include locations as diverse as Neil Island, Car Nicobar, Diglipur, Kamorta, Hut Bay, Mayabandar and Campbell Bay. In all such endeavors it has been associated with the Directorate of Health Services which has always been extending full support and co-operation for the conduct of these medical camps.
