Port Blair, Ma 31: The Directorate of Health services observes World No tobacco day with befitting programmes across the islands involving PRI members, para medical personnel, anganwadi workers, youth clubs , women groups, NGOs and others to create awareness on ill effects of tobacco products.
The main programme on this year’s theme, Raise taxes on tobacco will be held at IRBN, auditorium at Port Mout on 31st May at 10 am. This theme has been chosen this year to encourage the tobacco users to quit smoking, since increasing the prices of tobacco products through higher taxes is considered as the single most effective way to decrease consumption.
On this occasion, the Islands Lt Governor, Lt Gen A K Singh in his message , appealed to the civil society, tobacco users, smokers in particular to quit smoking and ensure a healthy individual and society(PIB)
