Port Blair, May 31: A Bee Park established at Progeny Farm, Jirkatang, to promote Apiculture in this Union Territory of A & N Islands has been opened for the people interested in Apiculture including Students, Researchers, Scholars, Bee lovers, Tourist and farmers in a simple function held on 30th May 2014.
Mr. M.A.Salam, Director of Agriculture, urged the departmental officers staff and members of Self help groups who were present in the occasion to develop interest in Beekeeping and he informed that the facilities at Bee Park initially for 3 months could be availed by the visitors at free of cost.
The facilities includes live bee hive boxes depicting the various life cycle of the honey bee, a sale counter for the different equipments used for Apiculture, Honey obtained from different species of Honey Bee, Books related to Apiculture / Beekeeping and an Information Kiosk. One can also taste different types of honey in the honey taste corner set up at Bee Park.
General Public can avail this facility from 6.00 am to 3.00 pm on all working days, a release from M.A.Salam, the Director of Agriculture said here today.
