Hundreds of voters find their names missing from voter list
Bureau Report
Port Blair, Apr 10: Meet Samhita Veda Acharya, a well known event manager and her mother Mrs. Geetanjali Acharya, residents of Doctors’ Colony, Naya Gaon. Weeks back when Samhita Acharya called up the toll free number of Election Control Room to find out whether her name is there in the electoral roll, she was informed that her and her family members’ names are there in the Electoral Roll and they have to cast vote as SAD office, Polling Booth at Phoenix Bay.
But to her utter dismay, when Samhita with her father, Mr. Samir Acharya (Well known environmentalist) and mother Mrs. Geetanjali Acharya reached the said polling booth. She was informed that her name has been deleted from the Electoral Roll. Her mother’s name was however could not be found at all.
Interestingly the name of Mr. Samir Acharya appeared in the electoral roll and he could exercise his franchise today.
Samhita and her mother are not alone, who did not find their names in Electoral Roll today. Infact Hundreds of people today went back disheartened from different election booth, indicating that something was terribly wrong in the process of finalizing electoral roll of A & N Islands.
Most interestingly a staff of Election Cell (anonymity requested), did not find his and all of his family members’ names in electoral roll, when he reached the polling booth with his family.
Totally upset and depressed when a Government Servant with his wife today reached Election Control Room to inform the Chief Election Officer, he was asked to leave the as, according to CEO it was the mistake of the voters, who did not check their names earlier.
However, several dozens of such cases were reported from Port Blair itself and more from other Islands. At Rangat dozens of people reached Andaman Sheekha office with similar complaints. Some of the complainants were Rakesh Roy, Kushal Mondal, Kamala Mondal, Nirmal Kr. Mondal, Rajesh Kr. Naik, Sameer Mondal, Vinitha etc.
The CEO and her team must be lauded for conducting polls in utmost fair n transparent manner without any untoward incidents but this aspect of this election must also be noted so that that in coming election these hundreds of people could atleast get their rights of voting back.
very interesting to note, but it is fact.even govt. officials deputed for election duty not received their EDC to vote, my self one of them who lost right to vote on this M.P. election..
