Port Blair, Mar 23: World Water Day was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm by the Greenos of GSSS Sabari on 22.03.2014. Greenos performed street plays on the theme :”Water and Energy”at 10 different locations in the morning hours covering Rangat, Nimbutala, Rangat Bay, Dasarathpur, Sabari and Bakultala village. The aim was to spread awareness to save water. Water is one of the essential commodities for humans. However, the time is such that there is a dire need to conserve water and stop its misuse. The street play was based on the message to conserve water. The characters of the street play also informed that the play was based on the message of saving water and conserving it. Local people too agreed that there was a need to conserve water today if we wanted to preserve this precious commodity for our future generations.
During the inaugural street play at Rangat Bazaar, the Chief Guest Shri Susen Mallick, DEO, Rangat said that, water is a free gift of nature and we cannot even imagine life without water. He said that throughout the world, the water table is receding at an alarming rate.
This has given rise to the concern of scholars who are predicting that the third World War will be fought over water. He appreciated the efforts taken up by the Greeno Eco Club and appealed to the students to carry on their mission to save water and mother Earth.
Principal of the school in his address said that the institution has always taken up issues of global concern. The problem of water is one
of the burning issues of the present times and it is our social responsibility to do something in this direction.
Pamphlets were also distributed among the gatherings which was developed by the school Greeno Eco Club in three languages (English,
Hindi & Bengali) containing information on water and some tips which can be easily adopted by everyone to conserve every precious drop of water.
