Port Blair, Jan 07: A Blood Donation Camp was organized by the A&N State Social Welfare Board in collaboration with Shine Resource Sangathan, Garacharama, Port Blair in the Conference Hall of A&N State Social Welfare Board on 07.02.2014. The First Lady of the Islands, Smt. Suneeti Singh was the Chief Guest on the occasion, while Smt. Ratna Kannan, Chairperson, A&N State Social Welfare Board presided over the function. Ms. Mariam Bibi, Board Member and Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad alongwith Smt. Malati Mondal, Smt. Sarasamma Prabhakaran and Smt. Sara Dias, Board Members were present in the camp. Shri S.K. Chugh, Director, Social Welfare was also present in the camp. Shri Sanjay Kumar Lakra, President and Shri Aman Kishan Lal, Secretary of Shine Resource Sangathan, represented their N.G.O. The Women representatives of the Mahila Mandals of South Andaman were also present in the Camp. The programme was inaugurated by lighting the traditional Oil Lamp by the 1st Lady of the Islands. Smt. Ratna Kannan, Chairperson, A&N SWB, in her welcome address expressed the necessity of donating blood as it saves the lives of the people who are in need of it. She further said that donation of blood is of great value and the recipient of the blood will always bless the donor.
Shri S.K. Chugh, Director (S.W.) appreciated the efforts of the Shine Resource Sangathan and talked about some of the programmes of the Department of Social Welfare.
The 1st lady of the Islands Smt. Suneeti Singh in her address requested the ladies to take care of their health as, if the lady of the house is healthy , the family will be healthy. She expressed the need to have mobile medical vans which can do door to door survey of the immunization programme to the children of the Islanders. She was inquisitive to know if the blood was tested before giving it to the recipient. Dr. Shahina of the G.B.Pant Hospital replied to the queries raised by the 1st lady of the Islands. The 1st lady appreciated the work of Dr. Shahina and her team of G.B. Pant Hospital for the noble work.
Many young men and women had volunteered to donate their blood. All the donors were given refreshment and snacks as an encouragement for their humanitarian endeavor.
