Port Blair, Jan 15: The PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma advocating for unemployed trained nurses wrote a letter to the Lt Governor wherein he has submitted that the UPA Government has launched a community based centrally sponsored flagship programme namely National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) with a goal to improve the availability of and access to quality health care by the people, especially for those residing in rural areas, the poor, women and children.
The School Health Programme is one of such programme under NRHM intended for health check up of students in lower primary, mid vernacular, upper primary, senior secondary and senior secondary levels. Those with minor ailments will be treated in the school and for specialized treatment; children will be referred to other health institutions. This programme is fast failing its importance and many States have started implementing this by recruiting nurses to serve the purpose.
Accordingly, Kuldeep has requested the Administrator to consider employing the nurses in all schools of AN Islands under the NRHM’s school health programme, which will serve the purpose of accomplishing the goal set by the Govt. besides generating employment to about 500 local trained unemployed nurses seeking livelihood; whose presence are in abundance. He has also requested to consider them pay of Rs. 18,000/- per month as is being granted to the teachers of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
