Port Blair, Jan 05: A cycle rally, as a precursor to 38th Coast Guard Day Celebrations-2014, was organized by the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (A&N) from Chidiya Tapu to Coast Guard Indoor Sports Complex, Haddo on 04 Jan 14. The aim of the event was to re-emphasis on the importance of physical fitness and team spirit of CG personnel, besides generating awareness about Coast Guard role among Civil population at Port Blair.
The rally was flagged off by Commandant Arvind Sharma, Chief Staff Officer (P&A), CGRHQ (A&N) from Chidiya Tapu at 0600 hrs. A total of 25 Coast Guard Service Personnel and Defence civilians participated in the 30kms long cycle rally. While covering the route, pamphlets highlighting Coast Guard Search and Rescue efforts and also Toll free helpline number 1554 to the fisher folk were also distributed by the participants. The rally culminated at Coast Guard Indoor Sports Complex in an impressive ceremony. The participants were felicitated by the Chief Guest, Inspector General VSR Murthy, PTM, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N) in the presence of a large audience comprising of the Commanding Officers, Officer-in-Charge and Enrolled Personnel of the Coast Guard Region (A&N). All the participants of the cycle rally were presented a memento by the Chief Guest on this occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, IG VSR Murthy appreciated the enthusiastic participation of all the participants and lauded their efforts in reaching out to the local populace for generating awareness about the Coast Guard. He also appreciated Commandant PR Lochen, Commander District Headquarters No. 14 (South & Little Andaman) and his team for smooth and efficient conduct of the event.
