Port Blair, December 13: The Lt Governor, Lt General (Retd) A K Singh, today inaugurated the State Level Exhibition “Gyanodaya 2013” at ITF ground, Port Blair. He also released a Souvenir brought out by the Department to mark the occasion. Organised by the Directorate of Education in association with the Department of Science & Technology and NCERT, New Delhi, around 400 exhibits from the students, representing nine different zones of Islands, right from Diglipur to Campbell Bay are being displayed in the exhibition.
Addressing the gathering, the Lt Governor expressed his happiness that the exhibition has been organized to encourage, popularize and inculcate scientific temper among the children of the Islands. “I am glad to learn that Education Department organized the exhibition where children showcase their scientific and cultural talents,” he added.
Referring to the immense talent of the children of the Islands, he said “it makes all of us proud that the children of our Islands are so talented” He complimented the teachers for encouraging and motivating the children to showcase their talent by exhibiting their products. “With such talent in our children, the future of the Islands is bright”, he said. The Lt Governor further expressed happiness that this time subjects like Commerce and Humanity are included in the exhibition. The Lt Governor further exhorted the children to dream big and translate their dreams into reality by hard work and dedication. He urged the teachers and the parents to encourage their children to do their best in their field of choice and added that it is our prime duty to mould our children as proud citizens of not only our country but also of the Islands as well.
A colourful cultural programme depicting the varied culture and traditions of the Islands was presented on the occasion.
Earlier, Kumari Hema Maurya, Class XI student of Govt. Model SS School welcomed the chief guest and others while Kumar Arman Rasheed, Class XI student of Govt. SS School, Sabri, Rangat proposed the vote of thanks.
