Diglipur, Dec 12: On 11th December at about 9 AM, the Coast Guard received a SOS call for help as the Police Marine Force Boat Bakhtawar developed a technical snag with 13 police personnel onboard. The PMF boat was carrying out changeover duty of police personnel form East Island Police Look Out Post to Diglipur.
Immediately the Coast Guard Ship C-145 was launched to help the personnel in distress. The CG Ship located the PMF boat 20 NM North of Diglipur Near Hiran Tikri. The defect in the engine of the boat was rectified by the Coast Guard Personnel very promptly but very soon the steering gear of the boat malfunctioned resulting in another breakdown. Finally the Coast Guard boat towed the PMF boat upto Diglipur.
The most surprising fact in this is that the PMF boat is new and such breakdown shows that how poor quality of boats has been purchased by Police Department. If such remains the condition of Police Boat one can understand how much difficulty Police jawans may be facing in conducting anti-poaching and anti-intrusion operations. The administration should look into the matter and order for proper maintenance of the PMF Vessels for effective interception of the poachers.
