Port Blair, Oct 20: Mr Bishnu Pada Ray the lone Member of Parliament of A& N Islands condemned the data issued by National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO).
Addressing a press conference at MP Bhawan, Mr. Ray said that based on untrue National Sample Survey Organization ( NSSO) data, the poverty in the islands has been reduced from 3% to 1%. As per the data presented by NSSO the per capita (per head) income of people in the islands is about Rs 93,000/-.
Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, A & N Islands has slammed the finding and observe that the figures are far from truth. He feels that due to falsified figure and non inclusion in BPL list large number of deserving poor people in the Islands have been deprived of the benefits under various schemes of the Govt. of India including Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA), National Rural Health Mission (NHRM), Sarva SIKSHA Abhiyan (SSA), Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewable Mission (JNNURM), Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission (RGNDWM), Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC), Indira Awas Yojna (IAY), National Social Assistant Programme (NSAP) etc. Mr. Ray is of the view that the administration must discard the false figures and take appropriate steps to conduct resurvey to identify the deserving families for inclusion in the BPL list.
Meanwhile the matter of concern is that the students of class IX to XII belonging to Diglipur, Kishore Nagar, coming under the category of BPL are not provided with free books facilities till date.
Further, the MP has welcomed the release of the businessmen on bail, who were lodged in jail for a prolonged period. He has requested the administration to pursue the case in a justified manner without any retribution with the accused.
Further, the MP who recently visited the villages in N & M Andaman saw that large area of agriculture land was affected due to flooding of rain water during the last cyclone Phailin. Due to this crops and vegetables has been damaged in villages in villages including Kadamtala, Billiground, Mayabunder, Diglipur etc. hence MP has demanded rightful compensation to the affected farmers.
He has also requested for holistic survey of the villages to identify places where new constructions including bunds, nallahs, culverts, bridges have to be undertaken to save the agriculture land from future damages and to facilitate the farmers. These remedial steps will go a long way in safeguarding the farmers’ future, he said.
“Moreover the search and rescue team of Coast Guard and D.C. has not been able to trace out those two fisherman r/o Rangat Namely Banadik Kirketta and Juran Chinta lost in recent cyclone. In Paanchwati Gaon, Nansukha Nala on which the construction of proper drainage has been carried out since fifteen years was flooded on16.09.2013 due to heavy rainfall,” he added.
The MP added that flooded conditions led to death of Mr. Egnees Hoorer a resident of the same area.
“The deceased left behind his only son who is handicapped and no one is to look after the helpless boy. Moreover compensation has not been issued by the authorities against the loss of life. The same was done for their own workman namely Basu Dev Mondal who died during the working hour in similar accident. As of now their no compensation has been made by the APWD query in regard of loss of life,” the MP alleged.
