Port Blair, Aug 25: In a shocking incident an innocent aboriginal couple was made to reveal their SBI ATM pin and found their account had been cleaned up, leaving just one rupee balance.
The couple revealed that an anonymous caller asked them that their SBI account is being verified and demanded their ATM PIN number. Believing him, the couple gave the number.
Shortly after they realised that their account has been cleaned up. When they reported the matter to SBI authorities they were told that there were enough warnings, and nothing could be done about it.
When the police were approached, they got a similar reply. They were told that a JE lost 4 lakhs the same way and many more people in the last 2 days. The number from which the couple got the call was +917759044781.
People doubt that some insiders in State Bank of India are lick important information like Phone Number and Account Numbers to the cyber criminals, who then target innocent people and escape with all money. The Cyber Cell of A & N police must conduct a detailed inquiry in this regard and form a special team to nab these cyber criminals. By that time, public should remain vigilant about calls like this.
Ignorant people about banking transaction has to be educated while delivering the PIN No. In SBI PIN No. is delivered in person, not by post if not wrong.
I may suggest that this is Banks responsibility to give awareness to those peoples who use Net Or Core Banking they should give the Instructions to the Customer,s about the Do’s & Don’t s or you can Print it in the Card it self that “Don’t give the Secret Code to anyone”
Tracing of the said phone number can be done very well. The holder of that phone number may be traced and interogated about this fraud. Bank officials should also educate the innocent people about the frauds which can be done if they disclosed their PIN to others.
