
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 01: As part of the Pensioners Day, Government Pensioners Association, Andaman & Nicobar Islands has organized a meeting of pensioners at Shaheed Bhavan, Anarkali, Port Blair on 01.10.2026. The Trade Union International (Pensioners & Retirees) of the WFTU has observed this year as International Day of Global Struggle of Pensioners.
KG Das, President of the Govt Pensioners Association, who presided over the meeting, briefly explained the difficulties being faced by the pensioners in the islands for their medical treatment in the islands and on the mainland hospitals. Suresh Lall, General Secretary, Govt Pensioners Association briefly explained various issues taken up with the A&N Administration and Govt. of India by the Association.
Addressing the meeting, D. Ayyappan, former General Secretary of Non-Gazetted Govt Officers Association has said that Pensioners all over the world have come forward to defend the rights of pensioners and for a decent life. He said that the present government is trying to deny the benefits of pay commission recommendations to the pensioners and called upon the pensioners to remain united under the banner of Govt Pensioners Association which is affiliated to the National Coordination Committee of Pensioners Associations (NCCPA).
Pronob Banerjee, Vice President and P. Sathyapal, Asst General Secretary of the Govt Pensioners Association also addressed the meeting. A large number of pensioners attended the programme.
The Rangat Branch of the Govt Pensioners Association took out a Rally of pensioners at the Rangat Bazar. R. K Baral, Vice President and Ajit Kumar Dey, Secretary of the Rangat Branch led the procession. Projit Kumar Sarkar, President, CITU Rangat Zonal Committee addressed the participants in the programme. A large number of pensioners from the Rangat area participated in the Rally.
