Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 22: Firefighters of Fire Station Baratang carried out a swift response and removed a massive tree that had fallen across the ATR Road (NH-04) near BD Nallah Bridge at Middle Strait during the night of September 21.
At around 9:50 p.m., the SHO, Police Station Baratang, informed Fire Station Baratang that a massive tree had fallen across the ATR Road, leaving two persons stranded. The two persons were travelling towards Sri Vijaya Puram through the ATR as special cases following the demise of their father and brother, respectively.
After continuous efforts, the fallen tree was removed at around 11:15 p.m. with the assistance of staff from the Forest Department.
During the operation, various disaster management equipment, including a felling axe, crowbar, dao, two mechanical chain saws and a tower light, was utilised to facilitate the removal of the tree and provide illumination in the dense forest area.
The efforts of the firefighters were appreciated by the stranded family members for rendering selfless service and clearing the road during night hours in a Forest Reserve area.
