Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 17: A Mega Voluntary Blood Donation Drive, themed “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.” was inaugurated at Ramakrishna Mission (R.K. Mission), Sri Vijaya Puram, on 17 September 2026. The inauguration was held in the presence of Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament; Smti. Vasanth, Chairperson, SVPMC; Mr. Raghunath Kulkarni, BJP National Prabhari of A&N Islands; and Mr. Anil Tiwari, State President, BJP. The drive will continue till 2 October 2026, with several voluntary blood donation camps scheduled to be organised during the period. All together total 57 units of blood were donated by the voluntary donors.
The programme is being organized in association with the Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS), with technical support from the Blood Centre, G. B. Pant Hospital, ANIIMS, Sri Vijaya Puram, with the objective of promoting voluntary blood donation and creating awareness about the importance of maintaining an adequate and safe blood supply.
The drive is being conducted under the guidance of Dr. Subrata Saha, Project Director, Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society and Director, State Blood Transfusion Council, A & N Islands.
The Blood Donation camp was facilitated by the Dr. Malvika Mahato, Medical Officer and Officer In-Charge, Blood Bank, Sri Vijaya Puram. The donors were examined for their eligibility to donate blood and briefed the donors on various aspect and importance of blood donation.
Mr. K Paramasivam, State secretary BJP, Sri Vijaya Puram, A & N Islands, organized the camp and made arrangement for conducting the camp successfully.
The technical team ensures that the donated blood units are appropriately processed and screened for transfusion-transmissible infections, in accordance with established blood safety protocols. Donor eligibility and safety are also assessed as part of the donation process.
The Mega Voluntary Blood Donation Drive will continue at designated venues across Sri Vijaya Puram and other locations in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands up to 2 October 2026, providing an opportunity for eligible voluntary donors to contribute towards strengthening the availability of safe blood for patients in need.
