Sri Vijaya Puram Sept 13: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather, fishermen and farmer warnings for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for the coming days, with thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and heavy rainfall likely at isolated places.
On Monday, September 14, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are likely to occur at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. On Wednesday, September 16, heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm is likely at one or two places over the Nicobar Islands. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are also likely at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. On Thursday, September 17, heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm, along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph, is likely at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Fishermen Warning
The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off the Andaman and Nicobar coasts during September 16–17, as squally weather with wind speeds of 35–45 kmph, occasionally reaching 55 kmph, is likely to prevail. A swell wave alert has also been issued for the coast of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Swell waves in the range of 18.0–20.0 seconds with wave heights of 1.2–1.4 metres are likely from 14 September to 23 September. Fishermen have been advised to exercise due caution as there is a possibility of surging waves and boats are advised to ply with utmost vigilance.
Farmer Warning
On September 14 and 15, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are likely at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. On September 16, heavy rain of 7–11 cm is likely over the Nicobar Islands, along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. On September 17, heavy rain of 7–11 cm, along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph, is likely at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
