Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 10: The State Control Room of the Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration, has issued a weather, fisherman, farmer and port warning based on the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely to occur at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the coming days. On September 11 and 12, gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are likely along with thunderstorms and lightning.
Heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm is likely at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on September 13 and 14, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph.
Similar thunderstorm activity with lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph is also likely on September 15 and 16 at one or two places over the islands.
Fishermen Advised Caution
Squally winds of 35–45 kmph, occasionally gusting to 55 kmph, are likely to prevail over the Andaman Sea and along and off the Andaman and Nicobar coast. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Andaman and Nicobar coast.
Swell waves with a period of 16–17 seconds and a height of 1.5–1.6 metres are forecast up to 11:30 PM on September 11. Fishermen and boat operators have been advised to exercise utmost vigilance and undertake boating and recreational activities with due care.
Farmers Advised to Remain Alert
Farmers have also been advised to remain cautious as thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are likely at one or two places on September 10, followed by 30–40 kmph winds on September 11 and 12.
On September 13 and 14, heavy rain of 7–11 cm, along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph, is likely at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The port warning indicates little change in the weather outlook during the subsequent two days.
