Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 30: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, observed as National Sports Day, on 29th August, 2026, the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, A&N Administration, organized a week-long series of sports competitions under the theme ‘Khelega Bharat–Jeetega Bharat’ from 22nd to 29th August. The week-long sporting events concluded with the valedictory function held at the TGCE Auditorium, on 29th August. During the valedictory function, the winners and outstanding performers of the various sports and games competitions were felicitated with medals and trophies in recognition of their achievements and sporting excellence.
In his address, Shri Aditya Sangotra, Director (Sport/Education), as the chief guest urged the medal winners to carry forward the sporting spirit in the interest of the Islands and the Nation and to strive for excellence on international platforms. He also highlighted the ongoing development of sports infrastructure across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Veteran sportspersons were felicitated in recognition of their outstanding lifetime achievements in the field of sports. They included Shri Mohd. Aslam, Retd. DySP, Shri Joy Pinto, Retd. Block Sports Officer & Ms. Jasmati Devi, Retd. Physical Education Teacher.
The function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Shri V. Ranjith Kumar, Asst. Director (Sports & Youth Affairs).
