Port Blair, June 23: Grateful Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which bounced back from tsunami disaster, has not extended financial help for Uttarakhand relief. The A & N Administration has now decided to contribute one day’s salary of employees with their consent towards Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for Uttarakhand relief.
In December 2004, when devastating Tsunami struck the remote islands, a large amount of relief in kind and cash was received from different States and private bodies.
A circular has been issued by Secretary (Personnel) requesting all Heads of Department, Office, Heads of Local Bodies and Public Sector Undertaking to deduct one day salary of officers and staff with their consent from the salary of June 2013.
Unprecedented damage and devastation has been caused in Uttarakhand in the recent flush flood and landslides as a result many have died and thousands of people are missing.
“The administration would send the amount so collected to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for the Uttarakhand relief to extend moral and financial support to bring back normalcy as early as possible from this disaster,” an official release of A & N Administration said here today.
