Sri Vijaya Puram, June 28: ICAR–KVK, Nimbudera, organized a series of awareness programmes on sustainable farming practices under “Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026” during 25–26 June 2026 at Subhasgram and Madhupur villages of Diglipur Block, North & Middle Andaman, in collaboration with UTATMA, Department of Agriculture, A & N Administration.
The programme aimed to create awareness among farmers about sustainable agricultural practices for enhancing crop productivity, conserving soil health, improving resource-use efficiency, reducing dependency on external inputs, and increasing farm income.
During the programme, farmers were sensitized on various components of sustainable agriculture, including balanced fertilizer application, the importance and effective utilization of Soil Health Cards, integrated nutrient management through vermicomposting and composting, seed treatment with biofertilizers, scientific paddy cultivation practices, integrated pest management (IPM), and promotion of organic and natural farming approaches. Farmers were also educated about the importance of adopting improved crop varieties, and quality seeds of improved paddy and vegetable varieties were distributed to encourage the adoption of better-performing crops and enhance farm productivity.
The farmer–expert interaction sessions provided a platform for farmers to share their field-level experiences, production constraints, and challenges related to crop cultivation. Experts provided technical guidance on efficient input management, integrated nutrient and pest management, climate-resilient farming practices, and the adoption of improved agricultural technologies for sustainable crop production.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Y. Ramakrishna, Principal Scientist & Head (I/c), ICAR–KVK Nimbudera, and Dr. Jai Sunder, Director (Act.), ICAR–CIARI, Sri Vijayapuram. A total of 42 farmers and farmwomen actively participated in the programme.
