
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 28: To mark the observance of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Andaman & Nicobar Police organised a grand Motorcycle Rally to raise public awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to reinforce the commitment towards building a drug-free society.
The programme commenced at Flag Point, where senior police officers, police personnel from various units including IRBn of A&N Police and members of the public gathered in large numbers. To mark the occasion, the Police Kala Manch presented multiple anti-drug awareness skits, effectively portraying the devastating consequences of substance abuse, the dangers of illicit drug trafficking and the importance of collective responsibility in building a drug-free society. The thought-provoking performances received an overwhelming response and were highly appreciated by the audience for their impactful message.
On the occasion, Mrs. Geeta Rani Verma, IPS, Inspector General of Police, A&N Islands, administered the Anti-Narcotics Pledge to all participants, reaffirming their commitment to work collectively towards a drug-free Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Thereafter, she ceremonially flagged off the Motorcycle Rally.
The rally witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 205 motorcycles from various units of A&N Police. Traversing through the prominent roads of Sri Vijaya Puram, the rally carried powerful anti-drug messages, attracting the attention of the public and encouraging citizens to actively support the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Addressing the gathering, Mrs. Geeta Rani Verma, IPS, Inspector General of Police, A&N Islands, appreciated the enthusiastic participation of police personnel and the overwhelming support extended by the public. She emphasised that drug abuse and illicit trafficking pose a serious threat to society and urged citizens, community leaders, educational institutions and civil society organisations to join hands with A&N Police in combating this menace. She further stressed that public awareness, community participation and timely sharing of information are essential to achieving the goal of a drug-free society.
The event was attended by Mr. Jitendra Kumar Meena, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police; Mr. Rajesh Deo, IPS, DIGP (Law & Order/HQ/Coordination/Recruitment); Smt. Apoorva Gupta, IPS, SSP (Security & Immigration)/Commandant (IRBn)/IG (Prison); Ms. Shweta K. Sugathan, IPS, SP, South Andaman District/PMF; along with other senior police officers and personnel from various units of A&N Police.

The Motorcycle Rally stands as a symbol of the collective resolve of A&N Police and the community to eliminate the menace of drugs from the islands.
