Sri Vijaya Puram, June 17: In a significant initiative towards child protection and community awareness, Diglipur Youths, in association with Kalighat Police Station and with the support of Gram Panchayat Ramnagar and Village Organisation Unnati, successfully organized a POCSO Awareness Programme at Ramnagar on 17 June 2026.
The programme was inaugurated in the presence of Chief Guest Mr. Rajendra Kumar, Block Development Officer, Diglipur, and Special Guest Mr. Shibendra Halder, SHO, Kalighat Police Station. The dignitaries were welcomed by the organizers and community representatives. The programme began with a welcome address by Mrs. Rakhi Rani Halder, President, Village Organisation Unnati, Ramnagar.
Mr. Mithun Das, Founder of Diglipur Youths, highlighted the importance of awareness and community participation in ensuring the safety and protection of children, especially through empowering mothers, so that people at the grassroots level become aware of the provisions of the POCSO Act and their role in safeguarding children.
Addressing the gathering, SHO Mr. Shibendra Halder explained the key provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and emphasized the role of parents, teachers, and society in preventing child abuse and ensuring timely reporting of incidents. Chief Guest Mr. Rajendra Kumar appreciated the efforts of Diglipur Youths and Kalighat Police Station in organizing such an important awareness programme and stressed the need for continued community engagement to safeguard children.
A special awareness session was conducted by female police personnel, focusing on child safety, cyber safety, and the legal safeguards available under the POCSO Act. The session witnessed active participation and interaction from the attendees.
Ms. Valli from V News, while sharing her feedback on the initiative, appreciated the efforts of Diglipur Youths and Kalighat Police Station in creating awareness among mothers and women. She stated that such programmes play a vital role in empowering communities with knowledge and encouraging the protection of children through awareness and collective responsibility.
Around 50 mothers from Ramnagar and nearby areas attended the programme and actively participated in the discussion and awareness sessions. The participants appreciated the initiative and expressed the need for more such programmes in the future.
The programme concluded with an interaction session, vote of thanks, and distribution of refreshments.
