Sri Vijaya Puram, June 05: Hindu Rashtra Shakti (HRS), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has appealed to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Member of Parliament, Chief Secretary, Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman), and Assistant Secretary (AR Wing) to take urgent steps for the restoration and proper maintenance of the Hindu cremation ground at Junglighat.
In a representation submitted to the authorities, Mr. Rakeshwar Lall, State President of Hindu Rashtra Shakti, expressed deep concern over the deteriorating condition of the cremation ground, stating that grieving families are being forced to perform the last rites of their loved ones amid unhygienic surroundings, damaged infrastructure, inadequate maintenance, and poor civic amenities.
The organization noted that the cremation ground holds immense religious, cultural, and emotional significance for the Hindu community and should be maintained with dignity and respect. However, despite repeated representations, public appeals, and correspondence with concerned authorities, only temporary repairs have reportedly been undertaken, with the condition of the facility continuing to worsen over time.
According to the representation, recurring issues such as poor drainage, inadequate cleanliness, damaged infrastructure, insufficient lighting, and lack of regular upkeep have caused considerable inconvenience to the public, particularly during periods of mourning and religious observance.
Hindu Rashtra Shakti stated that it had previously suggested that if the Administration was unable to ensure proper maintenance of the cremation ground, its upkeep could be entrusted to a responsible Hindu organization willing to preserve the sanctity and dignity of the site. The organization, however, noted that no concrete action has been taken on the proposal so far.
The representation has sought immediate intervention for comprehensive restoration works, including cleanliness drives, drainage improvement, repair of damaged infrastructure, installation of adequate lighting, and establishment of a regular maintenance mechanism to ensure the facility remains in a dignified condition throughout the year.
Mr. Rakeshwar Lall expressed hope that the Administration would treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves and take compassionate and timely action in the interest of the public and the preservation of cultural and religious values.
The representation was submitted along with recent photographs depicting the present condition of the cremation ground.
