
Harinagar, June 5: The Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Harinagar, Mr. Manojit Halder, today met Mr. Sushant Padha, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, to apprise him of the severe flooding caused by the prevailing cyclonic weather conditions in the panchayat area.
During the meeting, Mr. Halder informed the Deputy Commissioner that floodwaters inundated vast stretches of agricultural land and freshwater ponds in several parts of Gram Panchayat Harinagar between 2:00 AM and 5:00 AM on Thursday. The flooding reportedly caused extensive damage to standing crops and fisheries, affecting the livelihoods of numerous farmers and fish cultivators in the area.
The Pradhan further stated that several households also suffered significant property damage due to the sudden rise in water levels. He emphasized the need for an immediate assessment of the losses to ensure timely assistance to the affected families.
Mr. Halder requested the Deputy Commissioner to direct the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Revenue Departments to conduct detailed surveys of the affected areas and assess the extent of damage. He also sought appropriate compensation and relief measures for those who have suffered losses due to the flooding.
Responding promptly, the Deputy Commissioner reportedly issued immediate telephonic instructions to the concerned departments to undertake necessary assessments without delay. He assured the Pradhan that the district administration is closely monitoring the situation and will take all required measures to support the affected residents and ensure that relief reaches those in need at the earliest.
Expressing his appreciation, Mr. Manojit Halder thanked the Deputy Commissioner for his swift response and concern towards the welfare of the people of Harinagar during the ongoing adverse weather conditions.
