Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 03: Zilla Parishad Member, Govindnagar, Campbell Bay, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, met Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Mr. Gyanesh Bharti, IAS, who recently assumed charge as the Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and apprised him of several pressing issues being faced by the people of Great Nicobar and Campbell Bay.
During the meeting, Mr. Singh highlighted the non-availability of LPG in Great Nicobar for the past five months, causing considerable inconvenience to the residents. He requested the Chief Secretary to intervene and ensure that the supply of LPG is streamlined and restored on a regular basis.
He also raised the issue of inadequate passenger ship services to Campbell Bay and requested that the existing four services be increased to six, keeping in view the growing needs of the islanders and visitors.
Mr. Singh further requested an increase in the routine helicopter services from the existing six to eight sorties with additional sorties, particularly in view of the difficulties faced by people travelling to Campbell Bay and the major development projects proposed to come up in Great Nicobar.
Emphasizing the importance of uninterrupted supply of essential commodities and construction materials, Mr. Singh also requested for regular operation of cargo ships to Campbell Bay. He stated that reliable cargo connectivity would go a long way in easing the difficulties faced by the islanders and ensuring timely availability of essential goods and other materials needed for island’s development.
Mr. Singh also underlined that improved transportation and communication facilities are of particular importance in view of the major development initiatives in the pipeline for Great Nicobar.
The Chief Secretary gave a patient hearing to the issues raised by Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh and assured him that the concerns brought to his notice would be examined and appropriate steps taken for their resolution at the earliest.
