Diglipur, May 21: Serious concerns have been raised over the alarming condition of several stretches of NH4 between Kishori Nagar and Mayabunder, where dozens of unmarked road excavation areas have reportedly been left unattended, posing a major threat to commuters and motorists. Large portions of the highway have been dug up, reportedly for repair and development work, but no warning signs, barricades, reflective markers or safety arrangements have been placed at many locations.
Local commuters have expressed concern that during heavy rainfall and evening hours these open excavation points become extremely dangerous and may turn into death traps for unsuspecting motorists. Poor visibility during rain and at night further increases the risk of major accidents.
NH4 commuters stated that while road repair and development work are necessary and welcome, leaving excavated sections exposed without any safety measures is highly irresponsible and puts human lives at risk. NH4 serves as a crucial route connecting several regions, and many commuters often travel under time constraints to reach destinations on schedule. As a result, vehicles frequently move at higher speeds, making such sudden unmarked road cuts particularly hazardous.
People fear that any rider or driver losing control at such points could suffer serious injuries or even fatal accidents. Concerned residents have urged the Deputy Commissioner to immediately take note of the matter and direct NHIDCL authorities to install proper warning boards, barricades and safety indicators at all excavation sites without delay to prevent any untoward incident.
