
Sri Vijaya Puram, May 15: On the occasion of completion of 90 years of Akashvani, a Nicobari Folk Music Concert was organized today at the auditorium of the Anthropological Survey of India. A large gathering of audience members witnessed the colourful cultural programme and appreciated the vibrant performances presented during the evening.
Director, Art & Culture and Disaster Management Priyanka Kumari attended the programme as the Chief Guest. In her address, she said that Akashvani has been serving the nation continuously for the last 90 years and has played a vital role in preserving and promoting the country’s cultural heritage and traditions.
The Guest of Honour, Dr. Manjulata Rao, appreciated the performances presented by the Nicobari artists and lauded their efforts in preserving the traditional folk music and culture of the islands.
Welcoming the gathering, Assistant Director (Programme) Meena Prakash said that Akashvani has been serving the nation for the last 90 years by preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural heritage, folk traditions and diverse art forms. She highlighted the important role played by Akashvani in connecting people through music and culture.
On this occasion, Deputy Director General Shri C. Subbarao stated that Akashvani has served society with the motto “Bahujan Hitaay, Bahujan Sukhay.” He said that Akashvani has always worked as a strong medium for public welfare, social awareness and cultural integration.
The programme was gracefully anchored by retired Senior Announcer Zakir Hussain, whose presentation was highly appreciated by the audience. The Nicobari folk songs and traditional performances captivated the audience and reflected the rich cultural heritage of the islands.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Programme Executive Jaisheela, who expressed gratitude to the guests, artists, officials and audience members for making the programme successful. The event beautifully reflected the glorious 90-year journey of Akashvani and its continuous contribution towards cultural unity and public service.
