Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 27: A case of alleged unauthorized entry, burglary, and theft of government property has come to light from the Minnie Bay Defence residential area, following which a complaint has been lodged at Aberdeen Police Station.
According to an official complaint submitted by naval authorities, the incident occurred around 12:30 pm on April 25, 2026, when the accused allegedly entered the high-security Minnie Bay Defence residential premises through the main gate without authorization. He then proceeded to a recently vacated quarter and allegedly broke open the lock using a hammer he had brought along.
The act came to notice when a Petty Officer residing in the same building heard the sound of the lock being broken and went upstairs to investigate. He reportedly found the individual standing near the quarter with a hammer in his hand. Upon being questioned, the person allegedly claimed to be associated with maintenance work and stated that he was checking the meter reading.
However, suspicion arose, and the matter was immediately reported to the accommodation office staff, who in turn alerted the Naval Police. A joint team of duty staff and Naval Police reached the spot and conducted an inquiry.
During the preliminary investigation, the accused allegedly attempted to discard a broken lock and some keys, which were later recovered by officials. He is also reported to have made statements indicating involvement in previous theft incidents within the same residential area, including removal of fittings from another government quarter earlier this month.
Subsequently, the individual was taken into custody and later handed over to Aberdeen Police Station along with items recovered from his possession, including tools and personal belongings.
