Sri Vijaya Puram, January 9: Ward Member No. 1 of Ferrargunj Gram Panchayat, Mr. Sujit Samadder, has urged the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) to take immediate action on several pending and urgent public works in Ferrargunj, citing concerns related to public safety, water supply and daily movement of residents. The representation was submitted along with local BJP workers and was led by Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, National Council Member and former State President of BJP Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
In a written representation addressed to the Superintending Engineer, APWD, Sri Vijaya Puram, Mr. Samadder highlighted the damaged and unstable condition of the Aniket well ring, stating that immediate fixing is necessary to ensure proper functioning of the water structure and to prevent potential safety hazards to local residents.
The Ward Member also drew attention to the poor condition of the road leading to Ferrargunj School, which he said is causing inconvenience and safety concerns for students, teachers and the general public. He emphasized that early repair of the road is essential, particularly in view of daily school movement.
Another major concern raised in the letter relates to the non-functional engine at the Beach Dera Dam. According to the representation, the faulty engine is affecting uninterrupted water management and supply, and urgent repair is required to restore normal operations.
Mr. Samadder further requested the resumption of a stalled project for augmentation of water resources at Ferrargunj. He stated that an assessment for the project had earlier been carried out by a DBRAIT team and a report was submitted to the Gram Panchayat Ferrargunj. The assessment reportedly identified two potential water sources capable of supplying approximately 20,000 litres per capita per day each.
The Ward Member appealed to the APWD to issue necessary directions to the concerned authorities for timely execution of the works in the larger public interest.
