
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 16: The Block Project Office, Diglipur Inclusive Education under Samagra Shiksha organized a one-day orientation programme on “Inclusion of Children with Hearing Impairment” at GSSS Kishorinagar, Diglipur. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Mrs. Sulochana, Block Project Officer, Diglipur, with the objective of strengthening inclusive practices at the pre-primary level.
The programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by Mr. Kalashashi Sarkar, Vice Principal, GSSS Kishorinagar, in the presence of Mrs. K. Meena Kumari, Head Mistress. Mr. Kalashashi Sarkar also delivered the inaugural address, highlighting the importance of inclusive education and early intervention for children with hearing impairment.
The orientation programme witnessed active participation from parents of pre-primary students, Head Masters, Anganwadi Workers, School Management Committee (SMC) members, pre-primary teachers, and PSTs. A total of 37 participants attended the programme.
Seven sessions were conducted during the programme. The first session was led by Mr. Ajoy Biswas, GTT, GSSS Nabagram, who provided an overview of hearing impairment, covering its definition, causes, and educational implications. The second session, conducted by Mr. Edries (KRP), focused on communication, emphasizing the meaning, types, and importance of sign language. The third session on the components of sign language was delivered by Mr. Biswajit Das, Special Educator.
The remaining sessions were facilitated by Ms. Rakhi Kabiraj, BRP (CwSN), N. Riya Nandan, PSRT, and Mr. Manindra Mondal, Special Educator. These sessions focused on basic communication skills and intervention strategies, including vision stimulation therapy and the use of cochlear implants.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Rakhi Kabiraj, while the overall coordination of the programme was carried out by N. Riya Nandan, PSRT, DEO Diglipur.
