Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 11: The District Administration of South Andaman has imposed a complete ban on the flying and operation of all types of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), including drones, gliders, and remote-controlled aircraft, in several sensitive locations from December 11 to 14, 2025.
The order was issued following a communication received from the Senior Superintendent of Police, South Andaman, informing about a VIP visit scheduled between December 11 and 14. Intelligence inputs have indicated a potential threat from anti-social elements or terrorist groups attempting to use UAVs to carry out attacks, disrupt public order, or conduct surveillance during the VIP movement.
District Magistrate Arjun Sharma, IAS, stated that there existed sufficient grounds to act under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, in order to avert possible danger to human life and maintain public safety.
Accordingly, drone operations have been banned in and around the restricted zones of VSI Airport, Chinmaya Mission, Burmanallah, DBRAIT, and Netaji Stadium under Sri Vijaya Puram Tehsil.
The ban will remain in force for the entire duration of the VIP visit, from December 11 to December 14, 2025. Any violation of the order will attract penalties under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with other applicable provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Civil Aviation Act.
Owing to the emergent nature of the situation, the order has been issued ex-parte and made public for immediate compliance. Copies of the order have been sent to relevant public offices, including the District Court, Port Blair, and it will also be published in newspapers for wider dissemination.
