Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 9: Serious concerns have been raised regarding the deteriorating condition of R.P. Hospital in Mayabunder, prompting the social organisation Our Rights Organization to formally approach the A&N Administration. In a letter addressed to the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Health), the organisation highlighted multiple complaints received from the residents of North & Middle Andaman about the hospital’s poor functioning.
According to the representation, several essential diagnostic and medical equipment at R.P. Hospital have remained non-operational for a prolonged period, causing significant inconvenience to the public. The organisation stated that adequate technical staff required to operate these machines is also not available, worsening the situation further.
The letter also pointed out a severe shortage of doctors at the hospital. Much of the region is reportedly dependent on contractual doctors, as no permanent medical officers have been posted in North & Middle Andaman for an extended duration. This shortage, the organisation stated, is affecting timely and effective healthcare delivery to islanders who rely heavily on the hospital.
The organisation expressed concern that the lack of functional equipment and insufficient medical staff is directly impacting the quality of healthcare services, thereby causing hardship to the local population.
The Chairman of Our Rights Organization, C. Saravanan, urged the Health Department to conduct an immediate enquiry into the matter and take necessary corrective measures. He emphasized that prompt staffing support and restoration of medical equipment would greatly benefit the residents of North & Middle Andaman and ensure the smooth functioning of R.P. Hospital, Mayabunder.
The organisation noted that early action by the administration would be greatly appreciated by the affected public.
