Mayabunder, Dec. 03: Residents of Mayabunder have raised serious concerns over continuous and irregular power supply disruptions that have been troubling the area for several months. In a formal complaint submitted to the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner (HQ), Ex-Pramukh Mr. Abdul Siddique highlighted the severe inconvenience faced by the public due to prolonged outages and frequent voltage fluctuations.
According to the complaint, on November 28, the region experienced a complete power failure lasting over 8–10 hours, after which repeated power cuts and unstable voltage have continued without any permanent solution. The fluctuations, occurring within seconds and minutes, have damaged household electronic items and led to heavy financial losses for both residents and the business community.
Patients at RP Hospital, students preparing for examinations, and the business sector have all been severely affected. Despite repeated complaints to the power house and concerned electricity officials, calls reportedly go unattended.
The letter also points out that an unqualified person has been posted at Panighat Power House, while the company’s technician stationed in Delhi has not returned to resolve pending issues, including a major outage on September 23 that lasted over 20 hours.
It further states that a private Company, responsible for operations, continues to receive substantial public funds despite failing to provide reliable service and lacking essential backup equipment.
The absence of a proper DG set and reliance on unstable load-shedding practices have pushed the town into frequent blackouts. Residents fear a complete collapse of power supply if the single engine at Panighat fails.
Calling the situation “extremely alarming,” Mr. Siddique warned that continued negligence may lead to public unrest. He urged authorities to immediately intervene, direct the company to station a skilled technician at Mayabunder, and install a proper DG backup to ensure stable, safe, and uninterrupted power supply.
