Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 21: The Meteorological Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram organised the India International Science Festival (IISF) 2025 Curtain Raiser on 21st November 2025 under the national theme “Vigyan Se Samruddhi: For Aatmanirbhar Bharat.” Students from various schools, along with their mentor teachers, participated in the programme. The objective of the event was to familiarise young learners with IISF 2025 and highlight the opportunities available for them to engage with national-level scientific activities.
IISF 2025 will be held from 6th to 9th December 2025 at Panchkula–Chandigarh, where students, educators, innovators, and the general public will be able to explore scientific exhibitions, interactive demonstrations, competitions, science shows, and knowledge- sharing platforms. The festival aims to inspire creativity, ignite scientific curiosity, and promote the importance of science in nation-building and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
During the Curtain Raiser, students were briefed about the purpose and significance of IISF, the types of events they can participate in, and the simple registration process for joining various activities. This helped them understand how national science festivals provide hands-on exposure and encourage scientific thinking. Under the guidance of the Head of MC Sri Vijaya Puram, Shri Surendra Pratap Singh, the session was conducted effectively. Shri Amrit Tirkey and Smt. Snigdha Pal coordinated and handled the IISF- related activities, ensuring that the students received clear information and support.
After the briefing, the students visited different sections of the Meteorological Centre, where the staff demonstrated surface observatory instruments, rainfall measurement systems, Automatic Weather Station components, upper-air observation procedures, and the process of weather data collection and forecasting. These demonstrations offered students a clear understanding of how meteorological operations support public safety and forecasting services. They interacted actively, asked questions, and showed strong interest in the functioning of the Centre.
The mentor teachers appreciated the initiative, noting that such visits help students connect classroom science with real-world applications. The event successfully fulfilled its objective of inspiring young learners and fostering greater awareness about IISF 2025 and the nation’s vision for scientific self-reliance.
