
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 07: One Stop Centre under the Directorate of Social Welfare organized an awareness session on Cyber Security Threats and Cyber Laws with the objective of enhancing understanding of common cyber security threats. The session was held at the Directorate of Education.
Mrs. Rukhsar Rahim, Para Legal Lawyer, One Stop Centre, welcomed the audience and introduced the Resource Person.
The Resource Person, Mr. Hari Krishna, SI, CID Branch, emphasized the importance of cyber security solutions, highlighting that the growing number and sophistication of cyber threats directly target users, and that many cyber incidents occur due to a lack of security awareness.
He further emphasized various preventive measures against cybercrimes such as using safe internet security suites, setting strong passwords that are difficult to guess, regularly changing passwords, and managing social media responsibly.
He elaborated on common forms of cybercrimes such as email scams, social media fraud, banking fraud, e-commerce fraud, data breaches, lottery scams, QR code fraud, online job scams, bank link-share scams, and investment fraud.
Additionally, he addressed challenges and threats in cyber security, advising participants not to open suspicious emails from unrecognized senders, avoid clicking on suspicious links or sensitive information in response to dubious communications.
He also discussed provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000, including sections related to identity theft, cheating by impersonation using computers, publishing obscene material online, damage to computer systems or networks, and breach of confidentiality and privacy.
During the session, the Resource Person shared the helpline number for Cybercrime complaints – 1930.
Mrs. Meenal Rajan, Case Worker, One Stop Centre, briefed the participants on the objectives of the One Stop Centre, which provides integrated support and assistance to women affected by violence in both private and public spaces. She highlighted that the One Stop Centre offers services such as medical aid, legal assistance, police support, counselling, and temporary shelter to women in distress.
The programme, attended by staff of the Education Department, was organized by the One Stop Centre under the aegis of Mr. Ravinder Kumar, Director (Social Welfare).
