Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 23: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), A&N Islands, in coordination with the District Administration, South Andaman, and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), South Andaman, has successfully facilitated the safe repatriation of a minor victim girl to her native place in Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal.
Following the registration of a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act by Chatham Police Station (FIR No. 27/25 dated 30.06.2025), the victim girl was placed under the care and protection of the Child Welfare Committee, South Andaman. Upon verification, it was established that the girl is a native of Purba Bardhaman and had arrived in the Islands accompanied by an accused individual.
Subsequently, based on a representation submitted by the mother of the victim girl, and keeping in view the need for proper investigation and social enquiry, the DLSA formally requested the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, to take necessary steps for the safe handover of the child to her parents.
Acting promptly on the request, the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, coordinated with the Child Welfare Committee, South Andaman, to ensure the victim girl’s safe transfer to her family in West Bengal. The Child Welfare Committee, Purba Bardhaman, was also requested to conduct a detailed enquiry into the family background and circumstances to assist in further proceedings under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
