Baratang, 01 October: Despite heavy rains, a remarkable field visit was carried out across major upcoming works and development areas of Baratang, as highlighted in the recent District Planning Committee (DPC) meeting. The visit was conducted with patience and cooperation from all concerned stakeholders and covered several vital projects aimed at boosting infrastructure, civic amenities, and tourism in the region.
The visit was graced by ADM Mayabunder and North & Middle Andaman, CEO Zilla Parishad Mr. Sushanto Padha, Vikas Kumar (DANICS), Ramesh Kumar (Tehsildar), Pradeep Kumar Singh (BDO), Pradhan of Nilambur Mrs.. Sumari Roy, Pradhan of Sundergarh Mrs. Sarla Krishnan, along with the heads of various departments.
During the inspection, key assurances and discussions were held on several important issues. These included the development of the Forest Ground and Stage with floodlights, stadium lights, stage renovation, and installation of a badminton mat at the Forest Labour Club. The beautification of the Jetty area was also taken up. The Civil Supply Godown land site was inspected, and assurance was given for providing a generator set to address electricity shortages during emergencies.
The replacement of the APWD water pump at Adazik was assured, along with the introduction of new mini buses for local transport and additional long-route buses on the Baratang–Diglipur route. The matter of Tiger Quarry was also discussed and inspected. Education needs were addressed with the assurance of establishing a VKV School, beginning at the primary level and gradually being upgraded. In the healthcare sector, discussions were held for opening a new dialysis unit and constructing staff quarters. Plans for eco-friendly tourism facilities were also considered, along with proposals for skill training centres in tailoring, technical trades, and computer literacy to boost youth employment.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of Baratang, Zilla Parishad Member Mr. Alager Swami said, “No rain, no weather could stop the will and legs that walked for Baratang’s bright future. Dreams don’t stop for storms, steps don’t stop for rain. When the goal is Baratang’s future, every effort becomes a gain.”
