Port Blair, September 30: The Inner Wheel Club of Port Blair organized a workshop under the Literacy Mission – Skill Development Programme (Diya Making & Decoration Workshop) at CRC, Brookshabad. The participants were children with hearing and speech challenges, visual impairments, and other disabilities. For many, it was their first experience of touching and using colours. One child, who is blind, felt colour for the very first time in his life.
The programme was led by Mrs. Pallavi Gupta, President of the Inner Wheel Club of Port Blair, who taught the special children as part of the skill development initiative, along with Mrs. Vaishakhi Khurana, ISO. Mrs. Sumitha, Director of CRC, warmly welcomed Mrs. Gupta and encouraged the children to enjoy and learn from the creative activities. Treasurer Mrs. Ranjana Gulecha was also present on the occasion.
The children participated with great enthusiasm, sitting patiently and joyfully as they coloured and decorated diyas. The results were truly outstanding—each diya beautifully reflected their creativity and dedication.
This activity went beyond art, serving as a way to stimulate young minds, enhance fine motor skills, and build confidence through creative expression. It was a heartwarming experience that highlighted how skill development can empower differently-abled children to explore their potential.
The initiative is part of an ongoing project that the Inner Wheel Club of Port Blair is proud to continue throughout the 2025–26 tenure.
