
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 28: The Department of Tourism, in collaboration with the Education Department, A & N Administation organized “Checkmate to Plastic” at New Wandoor Beach today to mark World Tourism Day 2025. The initiative combined cleanliness and chess to spread awareness about sustainability in a unique way.
Around 100 enthusiastic school students under CRC Manglutan took part in the programme. The event began with a cleanliness drive in which the students actively cleaned the surroundings of the beach, reinforcing the importance of maintaining a plastic-free environment.
This was followed by a lively chess tournament in which nearly 80 students participated. The tournament was inaugurated by Smti. Deepa Nair, Principal, GSSS Manglutan, in the presence of Mr. Adir Das, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Wandoor, who graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. In the closely contested event, P. Charvi secured the first position, while G. Naveen and B. Kunal claimed the second and third places respectively.
