Sri Vijaya Puram, Sep 21: On the occasion of International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) Day- 2025, the Atal Centre for Ocean Science and Technology for Islands (ACOSTI), a field unit of the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India, organized a coastal clean-up drive at Rangachang Beach. The initiative focused on reducing and managing plastic waste in line with the Government of India’s commitment to phase out single-use plastics and spread the message of the 3Rs – reduce, reuse, and recycle.
Alongside clean-up activities, awareness programs targeted schools, communities, and tourists, highlighting the dangers of ocean pollution and encouraging sustainable lifestyles.
Dr. Lal Ji Singh, Additional Director & Head, BSI, Mr. Debdas Paik, Head, ISTRAC-ISRO and Mr. R. Paramasivam, Pradhan, Bodenabad address the gathering. Dr. Dilip Kumar Jha, Scientist-F & OIC, NIOT–ACOSTI welcomed the gathering. A total of 75 volunteers joined hands with NIOT-ACOSTI, collecting and segregating 489.9 kg of marine litter, which was handed over to the local Panchayat for safe disposal.
