Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 01: Residents of Ward Number 18 in Sri Vijaypuram, Garacharma, are reeling under a triple crisis — persistent power cuts, inflated electricity bills, and dangerously damaged roads. Frustrated by long-standing neglect and administrative apathy, citizens have begun to raise their voice. Today prominent social activist Mr. D. Das Gupta addressed the media, highlighting the ongoing civic hardships and issuing a stern warning to authorities that if immediate corrective measures are not taken, mass public demonstrations will be launched.
In a strongly worded letter submitted to the Electricity Department’s Superintendent Engineer, residents of Garacharma and adjoining areas expressed serious concerns about frequent and prolonged power outages over the past week. The complaint, signed by consumers under the Garacharma substation (Ward No. 18), describes the hardship caused to students, the elderly, patients, and small businesses — all of whom are being severely impacted.
The letter states that these blackouts are happening without prior notice or any alternative arrangements, raising serious questions about the administration’s commitment to delivering essential services. “Electricity is a basic necessity and an integral part of modern life,” the letter reads, “and denying regular supply without explanation is a violation of the fundamental right to live with dignity.”
The residents have listed three urgent demands such as immediate restoration of consistent electricity to Garacharma and nearby localities; Transparent public communication about the cause and estimated duration of the power cuts and accountability and action against any departmental negligence that led to this crisis.
Furthermore, the complaint warns that if any lapse or negligence is found on the part of the department, strict action must follow. The community has threatened to escalate the matter to the A&N Administration, the Ministry of Power, and even legal and human rights commissions if a prompt and clear response is not received.
A copy of the letter has also been sent to the Secretary (Power), A&N Administration. Residents say the situation has become “intolerable and against public interest,” and they will not remain silent if the suffering continues.
