Sri Vijaya Puram, July 31:The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), A&N Administration, conducted hands-on training sessions on biomedical waste handling, segregation, and collection to ensure compliance with safe disposal protocols and enhance biosecurity in Veterinary Units. The initiative aimed to promote responsible waste management practices among staff.
The first training session was held on July 16 at the Veterinary Hospital, Junglighat, followed by a second session on July 30 and 31 at the Livestock Farm Complex, Dollygunj Farm. Sanitary workers, compounders, and the Senior Veterinary Officer participated, receiving comprehensive orientation on safe practices for managing biomedical waste in accordance with the Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2016.
The sessions emphasized proper segregation of biomedical waste categories, use of color-coded containers, safe collection methods, and the importance of maintaining hygiene to prevent cross-contamination and environmental hazards. Participants were trained to handle waste generated from veterinary activities, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and safeguarding public and environmental health.
This initiative reflects the AH&VS Department’s commitment to strengthening biosecurity and environmental health within Veterinary Units in the A&N Islands. By equipping staff with practical knowledge and skills, the Department aims to foster a culture of responsible waste management, contributing to safer and more sustainable veterinary operations. The active participation of sanitary workers, compounders, and veterinary staff underscores the Department’s dedication to implementing best practices.
